FSBO stand for “For Sale By Owner” and while many sellers try this option, it rarely works.  Typically while offering their home for sale on their own, their personal marketing and holding costs add up to more than what it would have cost them to hire a real estate agent and list it on the MLS.

In addition, FSBO statistics report that over 90% of sellers who try to sell their home by themselves end up using a the assistance of a realtor.

FSBOs accounted for 9% of home sales in 2010. The typical FSBO home sold for $140,000 compared to $199,300 for agent-assisted home sales.
